Aukelos and CNR-INO establish a Joint Laboratory in Pisa

Uniting engineering and laser-plasma science to develop next-generation particle sources for advanced radiotherapy

Aukelos and the National Institute of Optics of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-INO) have signed a collaboration agreement to establish a Joint Laboratory at the Intense Laser Irradiation Laboratory (ILIL), within the CNR-INO facility in Pisa.

The agreement brings together ILIL’s expertise in high-power lasers and laser-plasma acceleration with Aukelos’s capabilities in engineering, automation, and system integration, with the shared goal of developing compact, clinical-grade particle sources for advanced radiotherapy.

The Joint Laboratory will focus on laser-driven particle acceleration, high-repetition-rate laser systems, plasma source optimization, and the diagnostics and control systems needed to bring this technology closer to hospital deployment.

For Aukelos’s team, the formalization of this scientific collaboration represents a significant recognition and a great incentive to drive innovation in the field of radiotherapy.
